I've been getting skunked with store bought catfish bait (Power bait, dough bait, fake worms, etc etc etc). I've caught two 10lbers over the past 3 months – both were with fake worms, but the worms haven't been consistent.

So, taking advice from TikTok fishers, and made my own bait.

Bag 1 (top left): chicken liver w/garlic

Bag 2: liver, garlic, koolaid

Bag 3: liver, garlic, koolaid, canned sardines

Bag 4: liver, garlic, sardines, peanut butter, and dough bait.

Going to take two poles with me tomorrow, and give both the J-hook and the treble hook a go. I'm hoping to find out which bait they like the best out of these 4.

Have you guys had any luck with something else? Hoping I'm at least in the ballpark with the right bait/hooks.

  1. If you can catch bluegill easy, half a bluegill on a big circle hook is probably the best catfish bait you could ever find.

So for liver if you don’t mind it on your hands get some otter pops and use the red mesh. Cut a 1-2″ square stretch it around the liver and hook it like 3-5 times with a circle hook and you can cast way farther and doesn’t fall off. And keeps in the fridge for months not molding. Like I had some for 11 months no mold or coloration change.

My liver bait recipe I use is cherry Kool aid ,garlic salt, garlic powder, minced garlic, and I store it in a container cause I have had a hole in a bait bag and leaked on shit. A cheap container with a twist on lid in one of those coolers with a plastic bucket inside and shoulder strap work great.
