Seeking Local Advice

Hey y’all,

I’m a fisherman from the Northeast heading down this weekend, and I’d love to respectfully pay a visit to the waters y’all fish. I’m planning to hit the river, Tybee, and everywhere in between. I’ve heard the water can run murky, the weather might get rough, and tides aren’t looking ideal for the morning or sunset bite but I’m hoping to make the most of it.

I’d really appreciate a bit of local insight:

  1. Is it mostly bait fishing down here?

    • I’ve got pompano rigs with 2/0 circle hooks + 3 oz sinkers.
    • Also bringing a few 2 oz Bottom Sweeper jigs.

  2. Do lures get much action?

    • I mostly fish with topwaters and a few subsurface baits and would much rather throw lures than bait if it’s viable.

  3. I promise not to blow up anyone’s spot. I’ll only be able to fish a few hours total (combined between morning and night) and just want to enjoy the experience and learn a bit from the local water.

Thanks so much for any tips or pointers. Tight lines!

  1. I haven’t fished there specifically but I’d bring some 3-5” paddle tails and 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, & 1/2 oz jigheads as well as some spoons.
