So my current outfit is the Reddington original freshwater kit. Its good to learn on, but the reel definitely leaves you wanting something better. Ive also never bought/set up a reel with new line other than leaders and tippet, so I know next to nothing about new backing and floating line.

Ive been thinking about putting some money into a Lamson speeder paired with Scientific Angler 4x line. Would yall consider this a good setup, or should I go for something else? Any and all recommendations are welcome!

I mostly go for rainbow, cutthroat, apache, and brown trout, but occasionally target smaller bass or pan fish.

I always recommend going in (and buying from!) and chatting to your local fish store, they’ll always provide you with great insight about why things work/don’t work.

I used to buy expensive reels. Then I slipped on a rock and smashed my expensive real into another rock, permanently ruining the reel. I buy cheap Chinese reels now (which are often surprisingly good).

I have Lamson liquid and they’re great. They also have excellent customer service

I would get many different sized leaders like 3,4,5,6x not just a pack of 4x. I’d also just buy the reel from an in person store, they’ll usually spoil some backing on for free saving you from buying $50 worth of backing
