SoCal surf shark/ray surf fisherman here! I got the 12 ft PENN Battalion II Heavy Surf Rod for my PENN Battle IV 6000 DX reel, and I have had much success catching big leopard sharks and bat rays on the rod and I really like it when I’m targeting large leopard sharks and bat rays. However, it’s rather niche on the size of fish I want to be fishing for, the size of baits and weights I’m casting out into the surf, rather long and awkward to work with, and doesn’t work well when fishing off the pier or within a harbor.

I’ve come to the decision to buy another PENN Battalion 2 Surf Rod, and I want a rod within the series that will pair well with my PENN Battle IV DX 6000 size reel is versatile on the size of baits I want to cast out into the surf and type of saltwater fishing, be it be a pier, surf, jetty, harbor, bays, or jetties. I have narrowed it down to two options:

1.) PENN Battalion II, 10 ft, 2 pc (Medium Heavy power, Moderate Fast Action, 15 – 30 lb mono line weight, 2 – 6 oz lure weight)

2.) PENN Battalion II, 11 ft, 2 pc (Medium Heavy power, Moderate Fast Action, 15 – 30 lb mono line weight, 2 – 6 oz lure weight)

Of these two rods, which one do y’all think is the best fit for my 6000 size reel? Much appreciation in advance for your comments, opinions, and recommendations!
