This is the river in my yard that I'm usually fishing from. No dock yet, but it's in the works.
How would I make this more fish friendly?
My neighbor has put concrete and other large objects into the water to give the fish a reference or visual point as well as hiding spots. He has lots of success in his side. Mine, not so much unless I cast towards his area.

Get in contact with your local fishery or wildlife division. Whoever stocks it with whatever is native to your area should have a TON of care and maintenance tips for you!
