I’m used to light-line finesse fishing from the bank here in southern Ontario — dropshots, Ned rigs, finesse jigs, all that. The sun went down after hours of no bites, and before leaving defeated, I decided to dig into the crankbait box I hadn’t touched all season. Tied on a Berkley Money Badger 6.25, and on the second cast, I could faintly see it in the dark with a fish following behind. I paused for a second, and as it floated up, it smacked it like a topwater.

I was lucky to even land it — only had it hooked by a thread and was using a heavy/fast rod, so instead of letting it fight, I just walked it straight onto shore. Sometimes bringing the whole tackle store pays off.
