Newbie to slow pitch jigging

I purchased Truth/Seigler SG reel when it first became available; #1947. I am wanting to match it with a rod.
I am a newbie to slow pitch jigging. I have only used it as a surfcasting reels.
Any suggestions that wouldn't "break the bank", would be greatly appreciated.
