So I wake up early and head out in the dark to a local lake. About an hour in, I hear bass hitting topwater. I switch on my headlamp and realize there are bats everywhere. It was then I noticed they would randomly touch the water, obviously because they fly in a wacky manner. I don't think they were purposely trying to hit the water unless they were trying to get bugs off the surface. Just then, I saw a bass try to get a bat. I was shocked. I saw this almost a dozen times. It's shocking they can time that right to catch a bat. Has anyone else ever witnessed this?

Bears……beets……bass……..bats…..battle star galactica
Savage gear makes a topwater wingbait in bat. They will eat anything that will fit in their mouth. Snakes, rats, turtles, birds, you name it.
Bass eat pretty much anything that will fit in their mouth so it wouldn’t surprise me if they at least made the attempt. It’s probably more likely they were trying to eat the same bugs the low swooping bats were trying to get though.
They’re opportunistic feeders. They’ll attempt to eat anything they think is an opportunity for a meal. That’s why so many bass lures that don’t look like anything work. Like a 10 inch purple and blue worm. You think a bass doesn’t know that’s not normal? But they have an override in their brain that can’t resist the ‘what if it’s a big meal’ urge. Buzzbait? Nothing natural makes that noise or looks that way going through the water. So yeah they’ll for sure eat a bat if they get a chance. They’ll eat baby ducks.
