Received a new rod, Aventik Fly 8'1" 5wt, 4pc S-glass, loaded it with Airflo WF5F, tied up a tapered leader and tippet and went out fishing after a few practice casts in a grass field. Fish were a little finicky but caught three bluegill for my effort. Has been pretty windy the last couple weeks so I had a little trouble learning my casts, but I managed to keep the tailing loop knots down to four or five for the day. I also made a few pretty encouraging casts, but still a lot to learn. Going to shorten my leader …it's currently about 2 feet longer than my rod and I see issues already. Also have to work on my forward cast, have a habit of carrying it through like I do with my BFS rods, I'm not stopping the motion to allow the rod to unload properly. Anyway, my first fish on the fly and i think I'm going to enjoy this genre of fishing 🎣
