These just arrived 3 days ago, the speed demon pro pliers, know I know china yada yada, but I truly wouldn't expect this bad of quality normally from a company this big. These aren't even used yet. The grips are peeling after sitting in their pouch, in a pocket in my tackle bag, untouched, for 3 days.

  1. I’ve had this same pair for a few years now and have seen zero of this peeling you’re getting on the Grips. They’re definitely not the highest quality pliers, even both jaws won’t fully align when squeezed, but this must be from a decline in QC, or just bad luck. Did it perhaps come into contact with any kind of chemicals or soft plastic baits?

Edit: I also slid the grips off and coated the inside of each with some JB Weld, then replaced the grips tightly, wiped off excess JB Weld, and let them cure for a couple of days. Now the grips won’t slide around and get uneven with each other.

Side note, if anyone else has solid plier recommendations please share them, I can’t seem to find a good middle ground between these types of pliers, and Van Staal ones that go for a pretty penny.

  2. Try to warranty I guess.

Could put some cold or heat shrink over the grip after sanding them down if you want to keep them. Or just use as is.

  3. It’s their quality. Had the exact same thing happen on a rod i bought from them. I just wrapped it in tessa tape and pressed on. Won’t be buying anymore of their products.

  4. Do you use a DEET spray like Off for insects? If so, that is what is probably eating this.

  5. My grips look the same after just 2-3 months. Looks like the newer version doesn’t use this terrible foam anymore and appears to now be rubberized.

  6. They’re pretty much the bottom of the barrel, nothing they make is good unless it’s rebranded

  7. KingdomFishing on

    They have some decent reels

But anything under $80 usually isn’t worth buying as the bail isn’t to strong. Drop it on accident and it gets shaped funny.
