I am trying to put together a trophy trout rod. (22-28 inch browns) I bought a g loomis IMX crankbait medium. And I wanted the 5501 reel but they sent me the 6501. And, it’s looking like the error is on my end so I either sell this, ship it back to Japan, or fish it. Is it way to overkill for my intensions? Will also be occasionally using it for pike, and musky.

Sweet reel! I’d slap that on what I had and if it was too much i’d build or buy a bigger rod.
If i had that reel you’d have to dynamite it out of my arsenal.
Absolutely too big. I wouldn’t even put a 5501 on it. That’s a perfect rod for a Calcutta conquest 100.
It’s huge for trout buddy, even up to 28 inches.
5501 or even 4501 is fine. I fish 2500 and 4500 for big trout.
Assuming that is a JDM reel, save it or sell it here.
That spec has not been available for awhile in America and as it dawns on folks that:
A. No more reels are coming from Sweden after this year and,
B. Between tariffs and increased demand, the prices on JDM Ambassadeurs are sky rocketing.
I bought one each of the factory tuned 4500 and 5500 with brass frames in January. Price before tariffs is now up about 30%.
Cheers!
This is a common size for large catfish. It would work well for throwing large pike and musky lures.
This is much bigger than you would typically use for brown trout. But it would be great for trophy lake trout.
