Pickerel have some crazy teeth. I’d recommend buying a set of grippers if you know they’re in the waters.

  1. I been on a spoon and spinner kick and first LMB of good size with a treble hook in its mouth and thrashing around convinced me grippers were gonna be a requirement. Best 5 bucks Ive spent.

I’m blood brothers with a few small pickerel around me. Had to stick my thumb in their mouths to keep them open enough to unhook em. That’s why now I only really throw lures too big for the small pickerel to get

i’ve yet to catch one myself but i once took some friends fishing with me and handled one. gave one of my friends a rod w a zebco33 on it and a ribbontail, after like 10 mins he reeled in a scary looking pickerel about a foot and a half long. obviously i wasn’t going to make my first timer homie handle the toothy missile creature so i picked it up w 2 hands along its body, got the hook out and let the angry torpedo go.

They’re actually fairly easy to handle by splitting pointer and second fingers into the bottom of where the gill slits begin

Similar to walleye, right? I land those by hand all of the time. No net, no grippers.

  6. Fuckin ditch pickle, we goota kill them where im from. They’vekilled all the trout. Good fight though.
