If it gets you on the water, then yeah it’s good.

The equipment isn’t what catches you fish. It won’t make you a better fisherman. Just get out there first.

You’re gonna have a lot of people tell you the reel and line are more important than the rod itself. They aren’t wrong. At the same time, if you’re looking to get back into fly fishing, you should consider a “cheap” outfit from Orvis (Encounter) or Redington (Original). They’ll run you about $270-300 but will be loads better than this one. Or you can get that setup and get a decent reel and fly line.

It’s not the arrow, it’s the Indian. Whatever you can afford to get you on the water and learning is the best choice. It was a fiberglass eagle claw from Kmart for me.

Fly fishing has a tough learning curve for beginners. Returning your gear because you don’t catch any fish your first time is insane. If this setup is what you can afford, then go for it. If you have some money saved up and you’re pretty sure you’ll stick with the hobby you might want to start with something nicer, so you’re not struggling with equipment that sucks and you can focus more on learning and keeping your fly in the water. Good luck!

  5. Is it good? Probably not, but if it’s what you can afford it’s perfect. Just get out and fish. It’s better to buy a cheap rod and realize you love the sport and upgrade than to dive in with an expensive rod and realize it’s just not your thing

  6. Yes! I’ve been using this for about 6-months, upgrade the line. Get.on.the.water. Only thing worse than a bad setup is none at all! Can’t catch fish if you’re scrolling Reddit waiting for permission
