Looking for recommendation for best sink tip sink rate for wade fishing streamers on medium sized rivers, like the Tuckaseegee in WNC. Average depth is ~2-4’ with some deeper holes up to ~6-8’.

Both of these lines have a 10’ sinking head with floating running line. One is a 1-2 ips intermediate sink rate and the other is a faster 3-4 ips. Looking to throw unweighted streamers on my 6wt. Had previously tried a heavier sink tip line with a longer 6-7ips head (Airflo streamer max short) but found it sank too aggressively leading to lots of snags on the bottom. This has me leaning toward the intermediate tip but unsure if that is too slow of a sink rate for moving water.

Any help or tips appreciated!

  1. I carry a bunch of 12′ polyleaders of various sinking speeds to attach to my floating line instead of additional lines. Found that I was more inclined to change out based on section of river, than to swap spools on my reel.
