This is a section of a low-flowing creek in late summer. The blue circles show riffles with small pools that are prodding little Brookies using nymphs. The green circle is where the big (12”+) fish are, I’ve seen them cruising under the brush right along the bank.

I’m usually carrying a Tenkara USA Hane rig, and I’m new at this. The area is difficult to reach through the trees and heavily choked with alders on the banks, carrying a traditional fly rod is tough if you like to move around a lot. The creek gets 4-6’ deep with a treacherous muddy bottom in the wide (25’) slow spots and there is barely any current to drift in on.

Any tips are welcome. I’ve been meaning to try long-lining in using a strike indicator.

If it’s public, I’d cross to the far bank and fish in all the holes you mentioned.

  2. I see a trail so likely not difficult at all. And what is that like, 2 inches of trees to get through? How hard can that possibly be?
