Moved to Bay Area CA after 4 years in the Philly area. I hugely miss the easy access to awesome trout fishing (I have plans to take some camping trips north and east for serious trout fishing) but have found some fun local alternatives and wanted to post this as encouragement to my fellow Bay Area fly fishers and others who might have moved to less than ideal areas for fly fishing. Sight fishing carp and Koi is a unique challenge and an awesome fight, and largies in local ponds/lake edges are super eager to take frog poppers and mice at night. Trout are still king, for me, but you can have a damn good time even without them!
