I have a fancy goldfish in a 29 gallon, I put a big piece of drift wood in there but he's in there by himself. Debating wether or not getting him a friend is a good idea or not once the water parameters get stable again after moving the tank and the fish to my house.
I understand having 2 fancies would probably require an 80 percent water change weekly, there is a large hang on back filter on here that I think is a little bit larger than the one that comes with it so probably 40 gallons? And then the air stone I'm going to be switching out for a large sized sponge filter as well.
Will he be happier and healthier by himself or should I try and push the limits of the tank and add another fish in here so that he is not lonely?
(Once the tank has established itself a little bit more I'm going to take out this old blue rock or just put sand directly over it after siphoning and cleaning the gravel.) I know that he can choke on it but I didn't want the beneficial bacteria to get lost as I needed to replace the filter It was too gunked up when I got to it had to replace it.)
Any and all advice is welcome I'm a new time fancy goldfish owner and want to take this as seriously as possible and do what's best for my fish!! 💖
Much love – CJ
