I picked up this FL-8 and FL-8 SLT for free. I don't know if the batteries are still good in either. I'm pretty new to ice fishing in general and know very little about these Vexilars but want to start getting into it. Are these worth using and which is better? Also, are there more modern battery and charging options for them?

The FL8 is the first unit I ever used and they work great. I don’t know the exact difference between those two models but they’ll do essentially the same thing. Probably worth getting a new battery, you could even get a lithium. But those units sip power, an 8Ah lead battery is cheap and will run that all day no problem for about $20.
