So I drove out to Redbridge, Ontario to pick up what was supposed to be just a trailer frame. Simple deal, right? Nope. The seller tells me I can only buy it if I take the frame and this old hunting camp that was sitting upside-down on top of it—painted green, looking like it had survived a tornado.

My brother and I hauled the whole thing home anyway. Once we got back, we rolled the hunting camp off the frame and into the driveway… and honestly, I was surprised. The thing was built like a tank. It had solid 1-inch framing inside the walls, still straight and sturdy.

So naturally, instead of junking it, I ended up going full project mode.

I insulated it, tuck-taped everything, cut in a few holes for dropping lines, and built a wood stove out of an old propane tank—cut, welded, hinged, the whole deal. Ran the stove pipe up through the roof and even built an extension on the back so the stove wouldn’t take up space inside the 9×6 hut.

Meanwhile, I fixed up the trailer too: new pressure-treated wood, replaced the rotten runners, put on new tires, and fixed the frame so it could actually haul something again.

Now the trailer works perfectly. It carries my Jag, and it brings my ice hut out to Lake Nipissing for me.

Honestly? For something I only wanted half of, it turned into one of the most fun builds I’ve done in a while.
