I received these new (old stock) reels from my parents who got them at academy for 90 percent off a few years back. I fish the Texas gulf coast and know I’ll be able to put the Conflict 4000s to good use but I’m stumped on what to do with the 5000 size besides putting them on surf fishing setups. I mostly fish from shore but have a kayak that will have a trolling motor out on soon that I’m slowly starting to fish from more. Any suggestions would be helpful.

  1. The conflict is a half decent effort from Penn at a lightweight reel. I would hang onto those.

The stradic 5k can handle all your inshore needs unless a random giant jack or tarpon bites. It is one of my favorite reels for stripers, jacks, mahi, albies, snook, bluefish, reds, etc. It is also worth hanging onto. Pairs very well with a 7-8ft rod rated to throw uo to 3 or 4 ounces.

Cant speak for the rest of them.

Conflict and Stradic are going to be very similar in size. Much better drag on the stradic too

  3. I’ve got some surf rods that need reels before a trip this summer, holler if ya wanna part with any of em

ballistic is diawas answer to rhe CI4 stradic /vanford

FWIW I would use the 5ks for inshore over the 4k clashes
the stradic 5k is the inshore reel for the northeast
