Hey everyone!
a few months ago I got my 54 liter (~14 gallon) aquarium and put a male betta, four panda corys, three otocinclus and some shrimp and snails into it. (it cycled for almost a month before any animals were added)
now I've been looking into getting ten neon tetras, which shouldn't be an issue with my betta as he is very peaceful (he doesn't mind the other animals at all, he never flared at them or attacked them either, his colors are still vibrant and his fins are also fine.) but I'm scared that the total amount of animals would result in stress to some of them… does anyone have some sort of advice? I couldn't really find any answers online…

I’d stay on the safe side. While he seems fine right now, that’d be having too cramped of a tank to where he might have the event of suddenly turning on everyone with no prior warning (major risk with tankmates and bettas) + tetras can bully bettas and nip at their fins

Between the plants and the fish already in there, the stock is already high. I wouldn’t add the neons for all the other reasons mentioned above. Nice tank tho!

  3. i would recommend more cories instead, they like being in bigger groups and they stay at the bottom. unlike tetras that go everywhere which can annoy the betta. they could even bite the betta’s fins

  4. If your willing to do the maintaining, your still within reason. Overstock rules are very conservative and your tank is setup beyond what those rules assume your tank is.

Ive only tried the tiny tetras with my bettas and they have been entirely uninterested. I use medaka as dither fish mosty.

Maybe add 1 more tall plant to the back left. I pref jungle setups tho so if u like the clearing keep it.

Other person suggesting more corys is right. They get much more interesting in a pack. Id raise them to 7-8 and fins a small school of nanofish ~7-8

If your worried about it, u can always setup a lowtech backup tank

If u want more conservative start, get 2 cory and 5-6 nanos. Try choose somthing that doesn’t require a school tho

  5. Your Corydoras and Otos need to be in a group of 5+, skip the tetras and get additional proper schools for the fish you have.

Neon tetras are also fin nippers and bad tank mates for bettas
