I've had 2 tanks for years and a few months ago I learned about that fluval plant soil stuff and I was wondering if it would like disrupt my tanks bacteria and cycle or something if I were to remove all the gravel and put that stuff along with sand over the top? Some of my plants don't do well in the gravel. Also side question is it normal to have that much snail poop and plant matter down in my rocks?

Some of it can cause ammonia spikes I’ve noticed, I’d monitor your parameters very closely if you do switch. Unless you gravel vac your organic matter at the bottom of the gravel is gonna always be there.

If you switch to any nutrient rich substrate I’d recommend capping it with sand. It looks pretty and will help the nutrients stay in the substrate and not get into your water column. I switched from white sand to black sand (and left my nutrients rich substrate underneath) about a month ago and am still have an occasional ammonia spikes as my good bacteria try’s to reestablish. So, I’d just monitor your tank for a bit after the switch.
