So I got these as my tipups, they have dual triggers so you can run it spool open as a normal tipup or you can run it in the jaw jacker configuration. I would much rather fight a fish on a rod and reelvl vs hand reeling.

I have a little bit of an issue resetting them in a moderately quick fashion due to not knowing the depth. I'd rather not sound the hole every reset. (used once last year at the end of the season) Does anyone have any wisdom on anything I can use as a line marker that can freely travel through the eyes of my ice rods and not cause too many issues? So far all I've been doing is marking the line with a sharpie but it's difficult to see sometimes. Hit me with your tricks.

  1. You could try putting a bobber stop knot on the line. They can be tricky to keep in place on line as light as ice line, so I would keep the knot right where line leaves the spool so it doesn’t drag across the eyelets.

Someone else may have a better alternative to a knot that I’m not aware of.

  2. Use a bobber stop that’s what I do with my Finicky Foolers, put it right at the top of the hole after you set your depth.

  3. Put a bobber stop on your line and slide it up to the top of the water or to your hooksetter. Then just drop the line back in until your marker(bobber stop) is back to the same place.

  4. Another option is to pull line out in lengths as long as your rod. So if you rod is 36ā€ the. Each pull would be 36ā€.

  5. Or use your depth finder each time. This method is least ideal. Lots of ways. Just gotta figure out what you prefer.

  6. My favorite is to tie a length of leader on that will match the depth I’m fishing. Then I just set my knot at the top of the water. Much easier not having extra stuff on the line.
