Today I got out on the McKenzie River, taking advantage of improving conditions before the weather turns this week. Though water was high and a little colored, I found a seam near shore that was away from the violence of the main channel. Fishing a 4 weight, I tied on a Blowtorch with tungsten bead in size 12. My third cast resulted in a quality fish. Within 20 minutes of my first cast, I had landed 5 fish, all taking the same fly. The third and fifth of the day are pictured.
The catching really slowed at that point, but I did manage a couple more pan-sized fish over 2 hours. One ate a Perdigon (purple), while the final fish hit a tungsten Hare’s ear jig. Fun day in/on the water.
