Hi, I have a question. How many pellets should I feed my betta? The instructions say as many as he can eat in a minute but I know that’s way to much considering there stomach is only the size of their eye ball. When I first got my betta he sucked at eating, he would miss the pellets and it took him awhile to get to them because he was so weak from living in a cup his whole life not to mention the filter would push away the pellets so I had to turn it off for five minutes so little dude could eat in peace. So I would put a decent amount in since he would only consume a few and I just did more frequent water changes. Now he is stronger and I’m noticing he looks a little fat. I’m concerned I’m over feeding him. I feed the Fluval bug bites betta formula and usually do about 2-3 shakes depending on how much comes out at a time. I notice he’s getting lazy too he doesn’t swim as much as he used to and just hangs out in his cave but that could be contributed to the infection he’s fighting (I bought meds to treat it and plan on setting up the hospital tank(bucket) today)

Personally I give my boy 2 or 3 pellets each morning!
If the filter is stirring up the surface (top) of the water. You can take a small piece of filter material and stick it into the nozzle to reduce the amount of water flow. It will help calm the surface of the water and make it easier for your beta to find and get to the food. As strange as it may sound feeding your beta at the same time and in the same spot everyday will put them into a routine. If they are ever bloated from eating too much just skip one day of feeding.
My understanding is they can consume an amount the size of their eye. But soak it first. It will expand which usually happens in their stomach. So the amount of the eye after it expands.
I found out my guy is a bit underweight so I’ve been feeding him 5 small pellets in the morning and 5 at night to try to get his weight up some
