Hi, I’ve been into fish tanks for years, I have 3 of my own currently. This year I decided to get a fish tank for my sister for Christmas, she’s 7 so I’ll be taking care of the cleaning for her until my dad and I both comfortable enough to let her take it on her self. I’m looking for recommendations on what fish to get, since I’ve never really had smaller fish. I want her to be able to see a full ecosystem in just a 10g. Im definitely thinking some shrimp and snails. But what are some small fish I could do? She’s starting to be a little artist too so I’m hoping some fish with kind of vibrant colors. Thank you!!

I’d do a small school of bachelor guppies. You can get each a different breed so they are all unique, and they are nearly as colorful as bettas. I’m surprised by how much I love mine, they are very bold and curious and have a ton of personality.
I’d recommend some CPDanios………very sweet and they aren’t livebearers so you don’t have to worry about babies.
Make life easier and go with an unheated tank with white cloud minnows. You can still have snails and shrimps, although the wcmm can eat babies (but most fish can). They’re hardy, active, and come in either a nice natural red or a bright gold variety. Get both!
Go with ember tetras. They are a cheap school long fish that are pretty hardy and would good against a contrasted background. You could also go endless bc more hardy than guppies imo
