Betta Fish: First planted tank!

I plan on getting some small plants to throw more near the front, as well as some moss balls. Cycling it right now, but wanna get a betta and maybe a few cherry shrimp depending on the bettas behavior. How long do you ideally wait to cycle a five gallon betta tank?
