Two nights ago we augered a few test holes around the pond and heard some creaking, but ice was 2.5-3" thick. Then two very cold nights getting down to 10° with daytime temps below freezing.
Today there's at least a dozen or more of these crack patterns scattered all around the pond. Any idea what's causing them?
No bluegills caught today. Yes, the dirt bike took a swim. Everyone safe.

  1. Sometimes after cutting a hole it causes the ice to sink a little & forces water up & makes it even heavier, etc-

    I learned this the hard way many years ago when we drilled some holes for tip-ups a little too close to the fish house & it flooded & froze the entire bottom of our house in about 5-6inches of ice.
