My son's betta fish is sick 🙁
He’s between 6 months, and maybe up to a year, he was juvenile when we got him 6 month's ago. He's in a 10 gallon planted tank. We noticed yesterday he was quite flat, lying on the bottom of the tank. He's still able to swim to the surface for air but didn't eat the last two days now. He sinks quickly once he breathes so I'm wondering about à swim bladder issue. We gave him an epsom salt bath yesterday and he's a little brighter today – sitting upright on the bottom instead of laterally and his fins arent as clamped. We also added a little salt to the tank to help w osmoregulation (20g sodium chloride). He eats (normally) Aqueon betta food and North fin betta bits – 1 of each BID, which we found was optimal for his body condition. We did a 15% water change yesterday, parameters were 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5 ppm nitrate. We dealt with some fin rot à month ago and the fins are growing back.
We're at a bit of a loss for what else to do. We plan to epsom salt bath daily. We've ordered some kanaplex, but I feel shady about giving abx without a good reason. We've also ordered him a leaf hammock in case that'll make things easier on him to eat and breathe (we had the floating log out because I was worried it wasn't good for his fins, but while we wait for the leaf I popped it back in in case it'll make things a bit easier on him; but if this is a bad idea I can take it out again).
I think his eyes look a little bulgy.
Gah, so much anxiety.
Any thoughts you'd have would be appreciated. 🙁
