Hey everyone! This one goes out to the tech folk here. I’m usually pretty tech savvy, and work on boats for a living, doing MFD installs and transducers and yadda yadda as a small part of it. Mostly mechanical work though… I might be able to work this out on my own, though probably the most backwards, incorrect way imaginable.
I bought a Garmin GPSMap 742XS a few years ago for the boat. Didn’t do any research on it, it was just a steal of a deal through the marina that they were trying to get rid of. It’s been in its box for 2 or 3 years now, brand new. When I bought it, I did all sorts of research about the Garmin Small Portable Ice Fishing Kit.
Now… I could have SWORN it was compatible with my Garmin GPSMap MFD. Finally bought it recently, only to find out that it doesn’t exactly seem compatible. The Garmin website does not show that it is compatible. Google says otherwise but… well, don’t trust everything you see online.
My question to YOU is… has anyone ever adapted a 4-pin power supply cable to an 8-pin MFD cable. Sounds stupid just saying it. I know I can get an adapter for the transducer, that’s no trouble… but I’m not sure if I can just power the circuits I need to (+, -, NMEA in, and NMEA out).
Maybe I’m nuts for trying to make this work. Let me know what you think! Thanks in advance.
