I recently got this female betta about 3 weeks ago. Lately I’ve been seeing her flashing and also this brown thing kind of popping out of her tail fins. Does anybody know what this is? Is it an infection or a parasite or something? If so, I’ll transfer her to my hospital tank. I’ve never experienced this before in my years of keeping bettas. I’m also kind of worried if it could possibly spread to my rasboras.
For reference, she is in an 8 gallon shallow tank. It is heavily planted with lots of floating plants and house plants growing out of it. The tank is 2 years old and also houses 6 dwarf spotted rasboras, shrimps, & snails. The rasboras were living there before her. I also add tannins in the tank.
She is very active, explores all day, and has a good appetite. She does her little betta dance when I come to the tank and loves to follow my tweezers everywhere. She gets along well with the rasboras and they even eat together.

– no heater coz room temp is 80 degrees F
– I use a sponge filter with media at the bottom of it.
– water changes once a week about 30%
– i feed frozen blood worms, freeze dried daphnia, hikari pellets
– tank is 2 years old
