It’s not.. it may just be how you have it setup.. plus a baitholder hook may not be your best option. (because of the barbs used to hold bait ok the hook, where as your using the hair to fish bait off the hook) Something more of a J hook or a “curve shank” or even maybe a dry fly hook pattern (also called a wide gape pattern) you could use the 50lb but it would put a bigger hole in the bait your trying to put on the hair.

It doesn’t really have the flexibility for it to be as effective as it should be. I don’t go heavier than 8 pound test if I’m using mono or 20 pound test of I’m using braid for hair rigs.
