I got this little dude today (Mister Kip) and am freaking out. I did research before about Betta's before getting him (care, water temp, diet, etc) and after getting home and going down the rabbit hole that is cycling am freaking out.

He is currently in the same water they had him in at my local pet store. When I was there she added some extra liquid to it that was some sort of stress relief (I have read so many product names tonight I could not tell you exactly what it was but it had something to do with stress) and she gave me a small amount of it as extra when I left. I rinsed this old small tank my coworker had when I got home and added a small amount of what will be his new substrate and the water he was in at the store into it. He seemed fairly active and inquisitive this evening. He refused to eat, but it is possible the store fed him today.

The store directed me to add some of the extra stress relief stuff she gave me to his new water. I filled the new tank with the rest of the water he was in at the store and the remainder as tap water and put in a healthy amount (she said use a table spoon I definitely added atleast double that) and the new tank is a majority tap water. She mentioned to let the new tank run for atleast a few days before putting him in it.

After reading a ton of posts about cycling I am very concerned. It seems he will not be able to move to his new tank for many weeks no matter what I do. I am going to go purchase a water test kit in the morning and test the new tank over the next couple of days but I need some advice. Please keep in mind I am in a rural part of Canada and pet stores around me have limited options for products.

  1. Should I try to ship in anubias to compliment the new tank and speed up the cycling? It will take a few days but if it is worth it I will spend the money. I am probably going to catch some flack for the fake plants but it is all they had and what I was recommended.

  2. Are any of the bacteria additives/ kits actually going to help the process if I purchase one? I have read about kick start 700 and it will take a few days to ship to me at around $60, this seems to be the best option. There seems to be cheaper options no one is talking about online at stores around me that I could get faster but will they do anything?

  3. Is he even okay in the small tank and existing water I have him in? If so will he be ok until my tank is cycled?

  4. Do I need some sort of extra water conditioner to dechlorify or help the water in some way?

This has gotten extremely long at this point but I am very concerned for the well being of this fish and truly want him to live a good life. I have read so many different things online that contradict each other as well as the advice I was given at the store. I need solid advice to make sure he is okay.

I understand that I will probably catch some flack for my choices and am willing to accept the public ridicule to make sure he will be okay. Please help.
