Betta Fish: my betta has a tumor☹️

hi guys. this is my male koi betta, comet. i got him at petco in september 2024 so it’s been over a year which is great for pet store bettas. i noticed a few weeks ago that he’d grown a bulge on his left side. i know that constipation is symmetrical, but i still decided to fast him for 3-4 days and it didn’t work. hes still acting like himself. hes starting to be more towards the surface of the water which happens with tumors. hes still eager to eat and responsive. hes not suffering yet so theres no need to euthanize right now. im just preparing myself for when the time comes. i’ve never had a connection with a fish before like i have with comet. we greet each other and understand each other. we have our routines. comet has taught me so much about bettas and how to care for them and he’s been so patient and gentle with me. i’m really going to miss his feisty personality and the way he acts like hes starving every time i feed him. comet is the reason i fell in love with owning and caring for bettas and im so glad i got to experience being this sweet boys mom. i guess im posting this to say cherish your moments with your bettas because they don’t live long and you never know when you’ll be waiting for the right time to euthanize.
