  1. Nah, you should give it to me 🙂 we like joking here. You most certainly should love, cherish, and fish that rod & reel combo, at some point and after some considerations.

Where are you located generally speaking, and do you have angling experience? I ask because the rod skews well for larger lake fish and smaller ocean fish.

The reel is very interesting – can you post more pictures. I initially was going to say the rod, less so, but it appears to be first edition graphite, and have some oddities / eccentricity that an experienced fly angler would appreciate [details here.](https://www.theflyfishingforum.com/threads/orvis-8%E2%80%993%E2%80%9D-all-rounder-7-wt.915429/) It’s shorter length is going to make casting distances tougher in the beginning.

Post some pics of the flies and other gear too. We’ll help you understand what you have, what you’ll need, and where to go next from here.

  2. I think it would a great idea to get out there and use your Grandpa’s fly fishing gear. Orvis and Hardy make some quality fly fishing rods and reels. Jump on YouTube and check out the Orvis fly fishing videos which will take you over the basics so your time spent on the water will be more about reminiscing and enjoying yourself. Tight lines my friend!
