I’m a first-time fish owner and decided to get a betta fish after contemplating it for about a year. My dad has over 20 years of freshwater fish keeping experience and helped me set up the tank, and he made an anoxic filtration system for it.

I’ve had Toby for a week, and I set up and cycled the tank with mature media for two weeks before I got him.

I’m not sure why he keeps swimming back and forth across the same glass panel. I’ve tried covering that side however he still does it. The water temperature is 26 °C, the pH is 7.5, the tank is 22 L, and I’ve been feeding him bloodworms and Fluval Bug Bites. He always eats when offered food.

There are also some snails and three Amano shrimp in the tank, but he doesn’t really pay any attention to them. They usually stay inside the driftwood or among the plants.

He’s been swimming back and forth along that glass panel for three days straight. He stops occasionally to go to the surface and sometimes swims to other parts of the tank, but he always returns to the same spot to glass surf.

Check your water high nitrates and nitrites. If they aren’t good it might be poor water quality and he’s surfing out of stress. If these are both okay he’s probably begging for food Bettas are greedy little fish and they know who feeds them.

maybe his reflection is stronger there and he wants to fite it. get weaker lights and/or darken ur water column
