Last night on December 17, 2026, Kevin the betta fish passed away (mostly) peacefully due to clove oil euthanasia. During his last months, he had lost a significant amount of weight and would not eat any food. He struggled to swim so I had him in a nursery box so he didn't have to go far for air. He also developed pop-eye a week before and so I made the decision for euthanasia. I won't go into details but I did everything right at least by Internet guides but it took a long time, about 1 full hour, for him to finally pass on.
If he would have lived to January 25, 2026, I would have had him for 2 years. I did what I could to make his life last but I did not want to prolong his suffering in the final months. Throughout his life, he lived in a 5 gallon, 10 gallon then 20 gallon long. He leaves behind a ramshorn snail, Gary, 3 corycat roommates and a very sad owner. His final resting place is about half foot deep buried in the back yard.

What a lovely tribute. He looks like a gorgeous boy and it sounds like he had an amazing life.
