The last week and this week I have had high nitrate readings. I have plenty of plants in the tank and 3 ghost shrimp with my buddy Bluey. I was under the impression the plants would help with nitrates. I’m thinking maybe the duckweed on the surface isn’t doing so hot and maybe it’s affecting the water?
I’m going on a week long vacation the week of new years and I just want to get his tank steady.
I do ~20% water changes weekly.
*I know the water level in the tank is low rn, he’s due for a water change today!

Change more water, more frequently. 50% changes twice a week in the next few weeks will get the nitrates down before your vacation.
Water changes and Salvinia Minima (Water Spangles)! They’re my favorite floating plant for soaking up nitrates and they multiply very quickly!
