I've had this guy (Marvin) for about six months.
Got him from a reputable Fish store where I've bought all my fish and supplies for years. We upgraded him into a new UNS aquarium two months ago. He regularly eats frozen blood worms and pellets. About three weeks ago I had ran out of the blood worms and the Fish store is about 45 minutes away so it has taken me a while to get back and get them. This past week Marvin's activity levels have been very low.
I'm seeing an increase of him laying on the aquarium floor, plants, and wood. Two days ago he stopped eating pellets so I took them out after five minutes to make sure they didn't decompose because the water to get dirty. I went to the Fish store and bought frozen blood worms. Tried to feed them with pick ups as I have before. He finally ate one, after 6 minutes of trying to get him to chase it.
He also has started going up for air and just letting his body float to the bottom.
Could something be wrong with him or am I reading into it?

Do you dechlorinate your water before you do your water change as sometimes harsh water will slowly burn the gills off your beta over time and they will turn weak
Other times not enough water change or not correctly water changing by siphoning all their poop will slowly pollute their water over time, and they will grow weak from dirty water.
Or maybe the fish store had the betta for 6 months+ and you unknowingly bought an older betta. There are so many reasons as to why bettas grow weak or sick over time and sometimes it’s not your fault
