I added many Tannins to his tank so it would become darker for him. He seems pretty chilled out about it and likes it. Should I get him a shrimp to help out with cleaning or a few tetras? I have a ten gallon tank but he also has two snails in there already as is.

Now that this is established as his territory, he might not take to kindly to new additions. Tetras are likely to nip his fins, pick on him and stress him out until he dies. But he could potentially eat shrimp. If you want cleaning would try shrimp, and maybe a few different types of snails

  2. Bettas do not need tank mates, some are too aggressive for tankmates. I’ve had some that were solo only and some that could handle a calm community tank, you can’t be sure until you try but have a back up tank if you need to separate them.  Shrimp can become a lobster dinner so don’t get too attached if you do get some.

  3. 10g is too small for tetras, and putting shrimp in a tank with a predatory fish and practically no plants is just unfair to the shrimp. The tank is fine as it is with just the betta! 🙂

Besides, people put too much emphasis on shrimp as cleanup crew. The best and only proper cleanup crew is you as you are the one who controls the light, feedings, water changes and all the maintenance that goes with owning a tank.
