Caught not one but two suckers on the Kern River today. How do I catch trout and not suckers? I was told to get deep in the pockets but they're full of suckers! ☠️🤣

I would think, but do know know for sure, that the native and environmentally necessary suckers become fewer as you go higher in elevation.

Years ago I desperately wanted to catch suckers on the Eel River as that was all I could see.
My uncle, a hard core trout fly fisherman, just rolled his eyes and refused to give me any info.
