Tank size:10 gallons
Heater and filter? (yes/no): yes and yes
Tank temperature:set for 82 degrees farenheit I also regularly check water temperature with a digital food grade probe thermometer and there is a difference at times between 2 and 5 degrees. I have the heater placed near the filter. If that is not the best place please let me know.
Parameters in numbers and how you got them:
How long have you had the tank? I've had this specific tank for about 8 months and it's primarily been the males tank only however now that it's winter time my female was getting too cold overnight so I only had money for one tank heater and put them both in the same tank. I realize this isn't ideal and attempted to partition the tank into two sections but they seem to find a way to each others sides so now they share the whole tank.
How long have you had your fish?:the male is about a year old and the female about 5 to 6 months I would say
How often are water changes?1-2 times a week How much do you take out per change?I try to aim for 30% sometimes it ends up being 50% because of a more extensive longer cleaning with siphon What is your process?: I have no substrate right now I am hoping to have some soon next couple days maybe. Small pebble tech? Recommendations? But I just siphon the whole tank of any excess food or waste that has collected on the bottom. That has seemed to keep the tank very clean along with the help of the filter and aerator. Recently before female moved in I had a heat lamp that wasn't intended for the tank over it so the male could attempt to stay warm and it did the trick however what I know now to be algae started to form. 3 types of it formed in his tank and I acted fast concluding it was due to the lamp and excess feeding I cleaned the whole tank with a 100% water change and it's been algae free ever since.
Any tankmates? If so, please list with how many of each: just the one male betta
What do you feed and how much one to 2 times a day betta pellets mainly but she is small and can't eat the pellets even if I soak them first so I'll give her the flakes sometimes

Forgot to add that she has bouancy issues. She’s pictured under the rock because that’s where she’s most comfortable and can remain still while at rest. Otherwise she would be floating straight to the top. While she swims about during the day her butt is pulling her towards the surface she looks like she is having a difficult time.

  2. man im sorry but they absolutely Cannot be housed together, and “they always find a way anyways” isnt a good reason to give up separating them

  3. Being with a male can cause this as far as I understand. This is a really bad set up- i’m not sure how to help her now but if she makes it out okay you NEED to separate them or give one away. It is unacceptable to have them together. You also should have your tank full to the top as they have even less space than they should with it being partially empty. You also have no good hiding spots for them. This tank is bare, WAY too bare to even attempt housing a male and female together.

Also the overhang on your tank looks a bit dangerous- i can’t tell if you have something between it and your stand, but I would seriously consider looking for a stand that supports all four corners of the tank.
