Thinking about getting into fishing (Went fishing a few times as a kid). Started digging for my dad’s old rods in the garage, so far the only rod I found was this old Ugly Stick but I have no idea if it’s good for me. Any tips or advice is much appreciated. (There is another rod but so far nothing)

  1. Any rod that can hold a reel is a good beginner rod. If there isn’t a reel available to you I would invest in a small Pflueger President if it’s in your budget, don’t be afraid to go less if that isn’t in the cards for you. Presidents are about $60-$70 depending on your region. Go fish wish some worms, google Carolina rig and then google bobber fishing. I would also recommend checking out YouTube, and this is VERY important, YouTubers that fish in your state/area. Worms are perfect for beginners because the technique is straight forward, and every freshwater fish that breathes water will eat a worm at some stage of its life. Rule number 1: HAVE FUN. Try fishing alone for peace and quiet, try fishing with people for companionship. But remember fishing doesn’t equal catching and having fun is priority one.

TLDR: fish with worms, get a small durable reel, do some region specific research.
