this is queen thaddeus (she was labeled a boy when I named her and it was too good a name for her lol). I know bettas are opportunistic feeders but I swear the girl always looks starving. I’ve never been guilted by an animal more and I have cats and dogs.
I give her 3 high quality pellets twice a day with one blood worm treat between meals. she’s very active and explores. just want to make sure i’m doing right by her as a new momma and that her constant surface begging is just her hunger drive. thanks in advance! 🫶

I feed mine once a day. They can die from over feeding , I’m
Not saying you are but once a day a few pellets. Once in a blue moon I give him blood worms but not often , I think the last time was well over a month ago.
I just look at pictures of bettas that have dropsy because of organ failure… overweight and constipation can cause organ failure and its super scary that you can hardly do anything once dropsy starts. 🙃 harsh but it works haha they don’t know what’s good for them
Get better pellets.
The first day i got my fish, my family dumped an entire tube of live bloodworms in the tank, trying to get them out while fighting 6 bloated rasboras + a very bloated betta then all the fasting and daphnia feeding that follows taught me VERY quickly that these fatasses will eat til they explode, been so careful feeding ever since
I just point at mine and say bad nova bad!!! I feed mine fluval bug bites and sometimes live fruit flies which is enriching for her.
My betta is a rediculously picky eater. She does not like pellets, and will eat daphnia but spit them out again. She does however go absolutely wild about artemia/brine shrimp. As that’s all she won’t actually spit out again I usually feed her three artemias a day while fasting two days a week. So usually we don’t feed her on Wednesdays and Sundays.
She’s a very active and happy looking koi betta! The weird contrast is that my last betta (a copper male) ate absolutely everything he could get his mouth around, including the same daphnia and pellets our koi girl won’t even touch.
I think you’re doing okay. As long as you don’t over-feed and your fish does not look famished or skinny I think it’s good. Some bettas need more food than others.
