Questions: is there anything else I can be doing to give this sweet boy a good life? Does he have what he needs? What kind of betta is he? Does he look healthy?
I was gifted this betta for Christmas by my (very well intended but uninformed) boss in a 1gal tank, no substrate, or heater, he had a small plastic plant and filter.
I read through this sub, bought some things for him— and will upgrade to a 5 gallon tank when I can.
I’ve been putting top fin bacteria starter in every day to support fish in cycling (bottle says every day for 5 days). Also conditioned the water and heated it for 24 hours prior to adding Rufio.
He’s active, uses his logs, and has been blowing some bubbles!
Tank size 3 gallons
Heater and filter – 78-80 deg F
Less than 25ppm ammonia, 0 nitrites, 0 nitrates using api freshwater master test kit (tested today)
I’ve had the fish since 12/22, bought the tank on 12/22, put the fish in on 12/23 after adding conditioner and top fin bacteria starter.
So far no water changes, but will do a 25% water change tomorrow — gravel vac to remove 25% of water, condition tap water and bring to temp, add water to tank
Feed hikari tropical micro pellets 2x/day (about 10-12 pellets each time) and 1-3 freeze dried blood worms/ week
Silk plants, ceramic log, floating log, silicone leaf rest
No tank mates
