You can. It just won’t cast very well

The eyes are too small for the line to come off the spool properly.

It’s doable, but due to the size of the guides your casting distance will suffer greatly, casting rods are also meant to bend differently as the guides are on top of the rod whereas spinning rod guides are on the bottom.

Spinning rods have tapered eyes that start large and taper down to small. They are designed to allow the line to spin off the reel and guide it so you have the least amount of friction. Because of friction, the tight eyes of a casting rod will not let you cast far. If you’re using heavy weight, it will pull some line off, but if you’re using light or weightless, casting will be difficult.
In short, use it if you like, but don’t expect any distance plus you’ll get more wear on your line.

The eyes of the rod, specifically the first few eyes closest to the reel, are too small. This makes it difficult for the line to come off the reel smoothly and slip through the rest of the eyes, also how the line comes off the spinning reel can help it wrap around the smaller eye encouraging snap offs. The bait casted type reels allows the line to come off in a ‘straight’ line, with spinning reels the line comes off in a similar shape to a dna helix
