so i got my betta fish Ares 2 weeks ago and he’s been under a lot of stress. My tank broke the day i got him after shops were closed so he stayed in a smaller vase until i was able to buy a new the next day and i rehomed him in a slightly smaller tank then the original one.
his fin was already slightly nipped at (?) when i got him (the first picture was taken the day i got him, other two are from today) but it repaired itself the last two weeks.
Due to all this stress i forgot what kind of betta Ares is, because he doesn’t look like a halfmoon-betta which i think he was labeled as

The good news: that fin repair over two weeks means your water quality is solid and he’s settling in. That’s way more important than the exact tail type.
Looks like a halfmoon to me, maybe delta – hard to say without seeing him fully flared. The tail shape in that second photo looks halfmoon-ish, but they don’t always show the full spread when they’re relaxed or stressed. The store label was probably right.
The nipped fins are pretty normal for pet store bettas. Those cups, the stress, being able to see other bettas and flaring constantly – it all adds up. The fact that it’s healing already is a good sign.
You did the right things here. Got him into a proper tank fast (yeah, the vase overnight wasn’t great, but you fixed it the next day). Water quality is clearly good since the fins are repairing. And you’re paying attention to how he’s doing.
Keep doing whatever you’re doing with water changes. Fins should keep repairing over the next month or two. Watch for any new tearing – that would mean something sharp in the tank. The stress from all the moves will fade as he settles in.
The smaller tank thing – as long as it’s 5+ gallons with a heater and filter, he’s fine. Bettas are pretty resilient once things stabilize.
Good-looking fish. That blue is vibrant, which usually means he’s healthy despite everything. You’re doing fine.
