Decided to get a decent casting setup since I've been bass fishing more this past year. Adding to my Shimano spinning arsenal. It's been decades since I owned a casting set. Read a lot of reviews on here which were extremely helpful. I'll be targeting largemouth, smallmouth, and pickerel mostly. Pairing it with a St Croix Avid 7' M/F Casting rod. I love the Avid series and have multiple spinning rods. Definitely wanted something 2 piece so I can hike with it in order to get to the spots I fish. Any thoughts or best practices on my reel and line choice?

  1. Shorts_at_Dinner on

Keep the brakes high until you get the feel for it back. I’ve got 6 or 7 curados/scorpions and they’re great reels. High end feel without the extreme price tag

  2. The reel is great.

The line seems way too thick for a medium rod imho. Also I’m not the greatest fan of Sufix, even though it is not a bad line.
