Hello,
My betta and I got a 54L/14gal tank for Christmas because the swimming space in his 30L/8gal cube seemed a bit small to me.
On 26.12 I set up his new tank and of course transferred the decoration and filter from the old tank so that it stays cycled. When I moved him in, he was immediately curious and swam around. On 27.12 in the morning I decided to move the tank to another spot, so he had to go into a bowl (of course with his tank water) for about 15min so I could relocate the tank. When I put him back in, everything was normal again. In the evening he suddenly started becoming lethargic and breathing heavily, he was also just lying around. I tested the water and all values were normal. Ammonia and nitrite 0ppm, nitrate at 3ppm and pH at 6.8.
Still I decided to take him out and put him in the quarantine tank out of fear that there could be something harmful in the water that can't be measured. His quarantine setup is a 20L tub, bubbler and heater. The tub is not completely filled so he can reach the surface more easily.
Since then he's been lazily lying around here. When there's food he actually behaves almost normally, though he looks a bit strained while doing it. He also only eats pellets now, frozen food which used to make up a big part of his diet, he doesn't take anymore. Strange is how he gasps for air at the surface, he doesn't do it just once but rather hectically several times in a row.
How can I help him?
