For the past few days, my Betta has been constantly glass surfing, even when I'm not there (I watch him from the top of the stairs) and when the light is on. I've had him for a few weeks. I'm new to Betta fish and wanted to know if this is serious or not. My tank is 55 litres with 10 boraras and 10-12 shrimp. He is passive and does not attack them at all.

Having this issue with my honey gourami but worse. Then again, he is new to the tank. He is getting a little better. I have been doing water chances, condition the water and did a blackout for one day. Lights only for five hours closer to night. Helps a little bit. They say you can block the sides of the tank with paper. Unfortunately, I need to see the tank if illness occur. I did blockout the back of the tank, just not the sides.
Now my bettas did this the first week in my other tanks but stopped after. It takes a minute with each fish glass surfacing.
Mine did that for first week, but the tank I keep is very heavily planted with lots of shade so he feels safe now.
This is very very bright and very open – I would add more plants, lots of floaters , catappa,,anubias tied to suction cups , glue java ferns to driftwood, to help him feel less scared.
